LMI were appointed this evening to assist the owners of a large shopping centre in Mackay following a destructive fire this afternoon.

Arson is believed to be the cause of the fire which caused extensive damage to the shopping plaza and three high profile tenants.

Prof Allan Manning, Managing Director of LMI Group said: "it is a lesson to all business owners that fire and storm can strike at any time and that when it does occur, it is imperative that the insurance program is up to date with a sum insured not only high enough to cover the damage but to avoid the harsh penalties caused by under insurance". Similarly, a business continuity plan proves invaluable at such times of crisis. If you are in any doubt on either issue, Manning urges business owners to speak with their insurance broker. "No one remembers the price of insurance after a loss like this, everyone wants the top of the range coverage, an insurer with a good financial rating and a proactive and empathetic claims department", Manning said.

Experts from LMI including an engineer and accountant will assist the insured in mitigating the loss, assisting with the reinstatement process and calculate and submit the insurance claim in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy. As in most cases the policy responds to the cost of engaging LMI as professional claims preparers and loss managers.

LMI Group are foundation members of the International Institute of Claims Preparers.
