Causation: The Basics

This program explores key terminology linked to causation as used in insurance policy wordings, and how these terms shape coverage interpretation and claims decisions.
 
Drawing on practical examples and case insights, the course highlights how consistent common-law principles apply across both jurisdictions.
 
What is causation?
Causation simply means what caused something to happen and what happened because of it. It’s about linking an event to the result, showing how one thing led to another in a clear, step-by-step way.

By completing this course, you will build a clear understanding of causation, recognise how related terms appear in policy documents, and confidently apply these concepts when assessing coverage and managing claims scenarios in practice.
 
Available on our Continued Professional Development (CPD) Portal, with multiple choice assessments throughout. A total of 1 CPD point will be earned upon completion.
