Over the last 6 months almost every State and/or Territory in Australia has been hit by a major weather event causing huge amounts of damage and an even bigger number of claims.

The Sydney Hailstorm, Townsville Floods, Tasmania Bush fires, Victorian Bushfires the most recent ones to name only a few…

On Friday, 8th March the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) declared the Eastern Victoria Bush fire a catastrophe, pushing all claims to the top of the line after destroying at least 31 homes and damaging another 70 structures.

Refer to the General Insurance Code of Practice here for more about why a catastrophe is declared.

So far, Sydney’s December hailstorms have racked up a $1.04 billion bill and losses in Townsville around $893 million at this stage.
