Course Outline: This course goes through the development of 6 principles of general insurance and how they have been affected by the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 and the amendments passed by the Australian Parliament. The principles covered are utmost good faith, indemnity, subrogation, contribution, insurable interest and proximate cause. The topical issue of flood cover is discussed in detail as a case study of the principle of proximate cause.
